Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 August 2026

The short version

Wingbeat collects no data about you, sends nothing anywhere, and has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. It contains no networking code at all. Your gear settings are stored on your device and stay there.

Who this covers

This policy applies to the Wingbeat iOS application and to this website, wingbeatapp.com. It explains what happens to information when you use either.

What the app collects

Nothing.

Wingbeat does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. There is no sign-up, no login, no account, and no way to identify you. The app contains no analytics framework, no crash reporting service, no advertising SDK, and no third-party trackers of any kind.

It also contains no code capable of making a network request. This isn't a policy commitment that could quietly lapse — the capability is simply not there. It is also why the app works perfectly at the bottom of a valley with no signal, which is where you tend to need it.

What is stored on your device

The app saves your setup so you don't have to re-enter it every time. Using iOS's standard UserDefaults storage, it keeps:

  • Focal length, sensor format and resolution
  • Your sharpness target, support type and default camera motion
  • Whether stabilisation, gusty wind and electronic shutter are switched on
  • Whether you have completed the initial setup

This information never leaves your device. It is not backed up to any server we control. It may be included in your own iCloud or local device backup, which is managed entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by us. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Apple's privacy manifest

The app ships with a privacy manifest declaring no tracking, no tracking domains, and no collected data types. The one API it declares is access to UserDefaults, under Apple's reason code CA92.1 — reading and writing only the app's own settings.

What Apple sees

If you download Wingbeat from the App Store, Apple handles that transaction and may collect information about it under its own policies. We receive only aggregate, anonymised sales and download statistics from Apple — numbers of downloads by territory, for instance. These cannot be traced to any individual, and we could not identify you from them if we wanted to.

This website

wingbeatapp.com is a set of static files. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and embeds nothing from third parties — no fonts, scripts, pixels, or embedded video loaded from anyone else's servers. The calculator on the home page runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server access logs, which typically include IP addresses and browser user-agent strings, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use these logs to build any profile of visitors.

The launch-notification form

The one place this site accepts data from you is the “tell me when it lands” form. If you use it, your email address and a timestamp — nothing else — are stored in our own storage on our hosting provider's infrastructure (Cloudflare). The address is used to send exactly one email, on launch day, and the list is deleted after that email goes out. It is never shared, sold, or added to any other list. To be removed before launch, email support@wingbeatapp.com.

Children

Wingbeat is a photography tool suitable for all ages. Because it collects no data whatsoever, it collects no data from children either.

Your rights

Data protection law — including the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR — gives you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data that an organisation holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or erase. If you want to remove everything the app has stored, delete the app.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects any of the above, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
